Total incompetence. Just about every officer on that ship is finished. Those idiots just failed basic seamenship. Complete disgrace.

Someone took Gordon Lightfoot in their death pool. Their heart fell when they opened this thread.

Yep.

When I was in the Navy I read an article in the Navy Times about a destroyer captain who got canned. The shipped returned from a 6 month deployment, and while it was undergoing basic maintenance it was noted that one of the propeller blades was bent. That meant he had brushed ground somewhere and he got canned even though the deployment as a whole had no other issues. If you can get relieved for a bent propeller, I'm thinking colliding with a cargo ship and almost sinking isn't going to be dealt with lightly.

Check out the damage. Starboard damage to the destroyer and port damage to the cargo ship. The container ship was obviously the stand on vessel. Evidently we have naval crews who don't know the rules of the road and now seven men are dead. Pathetic.

UPDATE:

Quote:
The bodies of seven U.S. sailors missing after a Navy destroyer collided with a container ship off Japan were found in flooded berthing compartments, a defense official said.

That's a bad way to go.

Being in a flooding compartment you can't get out of is fucking nightmarish.
